At HALI MOTIF we want your treasures to last. We ensure this through creating vermeil products that have a purity of 23.5 karat gold and a minimum plating thickness of 3 microns over solid sterling silver. We guarantee this high quality through working with professionals who comply with relevant Australian Standards who regularly use X-Ray imaging to measure gold thickness enabling consistent results.
WHAT IS VERMEIL?
People may confuse general gold plating with vermeil, and although these two share similar aspects there is a huge difference in the durability and quality.
Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a gold finished material that composes a thick layer of gold over sterling silver. There are industry standards that dictate what can be considered 'vermeil'. For example, the thickness of the gold must be at least 2.5 microns, the purity of the gold must be at least 10 karats, and the base metal must be sterling silver.
General gold plating on the other hand has no industry standards, therefore any metal can be used as the base and the gold layer can be of varying levels of purity and any level of thickness.
Overall, vermeil gives a perfect balance between value and quality.
